JaneChain is a creative platform that we’ve built at Serentic. A brand’s photographs, designs, fonts and notes sit together in one project, new images, layouts and copy are made from them, and a record is kept of how each piece came about. We are designers and image-makers, and we wanted to use AI on client work without losing track of what each piece was made from, or whose work it drew on, and JaneChain is what we started building so we could.
Starting from what is already there
Every brand we work with already has a body of work: product photographs, campaign images, a typeface, a way of laying out a page. In JaneChain that material is where everything begins. The person directing the work picks the references and decides what each one is for, its subject, its style or its layout, and the direction tools turn those choices into a detailed prompt that can be read and edited before anything is made. The brand’s information stays inside the project, so each new brief can draw on everything that came before it.
Remembering how things were made
Each piece JaneChain makes stays connected to the request it answered, the material it came from, the prompt behind it and the decisions made along the way. We like being able to go back to an image months later and see what informed it, what changed and which version was kept, and it means someone else on the team can pick up a project where it was left.
In use at Serentic
We use JaneChain on some of our own client projects, for images, branded layouts and copy, and for adapting work to different platforms. Because we use it ourselves, it grows from real briefs, and each project and round of revisions shows us what the tool should do next.
Where we would like it to go
The bigger idea is to connect the people who make original work, photographers, artists and writers, with the people using AI to make something new. We plan to open JaneChain to businesses and to individual creators, and we are working out a licensed library where creatives can offer their work on terms they agree to and be paid when it is used through the platform. We would love a version of AI where the original creators benefit too.
